Spring into Success: Melbourne’s packed calendar of business events in September
September 01, 2025
Australia’s home of large-scale business events is set to shine this September, as Melbourne welcomes almost 6,000 delegates across four major global business events secured by Melbourne Convention Bureau. Each will be held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and are collectively expected to contribute over $23 million to the Victorian economy and create 276 jobs.
Each event brings a distinct program and focus, ranging from clinical research and ethical AI to renewable energy and global trade. Together, they reflect MCB's strategic approach to curating a business events calendar that supports Victoria’s broad economic development priorities. By aligning with key growth sectors and fostering collaboration between business, government and research, these events contribute to innovation, investment and global engagement that underpin the state’s long-term economic success.
On 2nd and 3rd September, Progress 2030 Summit will welcome 400 delegates to Melbourne to discuss the next five years in Australia and how we can collectively build a sustainable, tech-forward future. The event program features over sixty-five knowledgeable speakers, including Treasurer of Australia Jim Chalmers, Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell, Lord Mayor of Melbourne Nicholas Reece and many more. Covering essential topics including AI and ethics, leadership, innovation and sustainability, the event promises to drive real outcomes for the future of the country and region, and will contribute $1.1 million in economic contribution to Victoria.
The long-awaited World Chambers Congress 2025 is taking place from 2nd to 4th September, welcoming hundreds of the world’s leading business chamber leaders, trade delegations and local business leaders. One of the world’s leading business events, the 14th World Chambers Congress was secured for Melbourne by MCB in partnership with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The theme of the event, “Business, chambers, government: Partners for prosperity”, will explore how fostering collaboration among businesses, chambers of commerce and governments can drive economic growth and prosperity. The event is projected to contribute $3.9 million to Victoria’s economy, as well as showcase the business achievements and acumen of the state on the global stage.
From 16th to 18th September, the APAC Wind Energy Summit will return to Melbourne for the second time in two years, following the success of the 2023 event during which Victoria announced it was the first subnational government in the world to join the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA). This prestigious event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and institutions to develop innovative and collaborative solutions addressing the challenges in wind energy development. The Victorian Minister for Energy, Resources and Climate Action, Lily D’Ambrosio MP will be opening the summit this year.
The busy month is capped by the World Congress of Gastroenterology from 19th to 22nd September, the premier event for the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO). Secured with the help of Professor Geoffrey Metz AO, a member of MCEC’s Club Melbourne Ambassador Program, this event further highlights Melbourne’s global credentials as a capital of healthcare and medical research and is expected to attract 3000 delegates and inject $17.7 million to Victoria’s local economy. Providing a vital platform for discussion and innovation, the World Congress of Gastroenterology will bring together experts and professionals from around the world to consider the latest research, treatment options and emerging technologies.
The popularity of Melbourne as a business events destination was solidified recently when the city was ranked fifth in the world for average number of participants of international association meetings in the prestigious ICCA City and Country Rankings, outperforming global destinations such as London, Paris and New York.
There are many more large and high-profile events coming to Melbourne in the coming months and years, with key events including Women Deliver (April 2026), the International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Region Congress (August 2026) and the Global Hepatitis Summit (2027). MCB has secured over 220 events worth more than $260 million in economic contribution, highlighting the importance of business events for Victoria.
