Melbourne powers up with the largest IEEE Conference and Exhibition on Power and Energy in 2027
August 04, 2025
Melbourne has secured the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) GTD Conference and Exposition Asia, to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in September 2027.
This event is the largest conference and exposition on power and energy, previously held in the USA for fifty years and expanding into the Asia-Pacific region in 2019. Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, Monash University and the IEEE Power and Energy Society Victorian chapter, spearheaded the successful bid for the 2027 event with support from the Victorian Government and Tourism Australia's Business Events Bid Fund Program.
The IEEE PES GTD Asia will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, technical experts and researchers to advance the field of power generation, transmission, and distribution in the Asia-Pacific region. It represents a unique opportunity for local enterprises to discuss potential collaboration opportunities with international technology providers, boosting the local supply chain in Victoria and contributing to the state’s goal to decarbonise the energy system.
The event is set to attract 3,000 delegates from around the world and will include four days of panel discussions and workshops on topics including renewal energy and storage, power generation, transmission and distribution, and technological developments in the field.
The Victorian government is committed to meeting its world-leading targets to cut the state's greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net zero emissions by 2045. The Allan Labor Government is supporting Victoria's transition to clean energy – backing an innovative solar and thermal water-based energy storage solution.
The IEEE PES GTD Asia further highlights Melbourne’s global reputation as an industry leader and a world-class destination for business events. The city will also host the APAC Wind Energy Summit in September 2025.
