‘Women Deliver’ representatives visit Melbourne during October

A site visit was organised by Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) as part of the bid to host the Women Deliver conference in 2022 (WD2022). During three days in October seven ‘Women Deliver’ representatives visited Melbourne to understand the logistical, operational and government and community engagement components that would contribute to a successful conference.

MCB worked closely with the Victorian Office for Women in the Department of Premier and Cabinet to deliver a relevant and productive itinerary.

A key highlight was a welcome reception attended by 100 key players in the gender equality community hosted by the Victorian Office for Women Minister Gabrielle Williams MP and supported by Global Victoria and the Victorian Office for Women.

Other program components included a full tour of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) facilities, meetings with MCEC executives, meetings with key stakeholders across government and other organisations; lunch at Government House hosted by the Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau and Minister Gabrielle Williams MP; networking sessions with key players in the private sector plus robust roundtable discussions.

Australian and State Governments are highly engaged in this bid. MCB Chief Executive Officer Julia Swanson led a trip to Canberra with two of the Women Deliver representatives, where they had the opportunity to engage with Australian Government and understand their support to host this conference.

The site visit was crucial in showcasing Melbourne as the ideal destination to host the world’s largest gender equality conference, WD2022. It was an opportunity to demonstrate the city’s infrastructure, capabilities and most importantly the high-level of community and government engagement available to deliver a successful event.
