  • We’re off to IMEX Frankfurt 2019

    May 12, 2019

The Melbourne Convention and Bureau (MCB) sales team is off to IMEX Frankfurt – the world’s largest trade fair for incentive travel, meetings and events which promises to solidify new business event hosting opportunities for Melbourne. MCB has over 60 confirmed appointments with international associations and professional conference organisers with significant business potential for Melbourne.

With over 5,000 trade visitors from 90+ countries delegates expected to hit the showroom floor, MCB and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) representatives will be on ground at the Melbourne booth as part of the Australia stand to showcase what’s new in our city, and importantly land new business leads.

We are also excited to launch our latest tool - the Melbourne Virtual Site Visit - to help international associations and professional conference organisers (PCOs) plan their upcoming conference in Melbourne.

Created in partnership with Business Events Australia through its Advance Program, the Melbourne Virtual Site Visit combines technologically advanced virtual reality (VR) and comprehensive immersive experiences showcasing various aspects of Melbourne and Victoria as a leading global business events destination.

Designed to inspire and deliver practical information, the Virtual Site Visit mirrors the standard site visit offering for international association clients and PCOs who conduct inspections as part of their planning process. It also offers useful information for potential delegates as to what they can do, see and experience in Melbourne during their conference stay.

Thank you to our partners who have contributed to making this an extra special tool in our kit bag.

Last but not least, following critical acclaim at this year’s AIME, MCB and MCEC are partnering with fellow BestCities Global Alliance partner, Dubai Business Events to present the Dialogue in the Dark pop-up sensory experience at a significant industry function.

Taking place in a simulated environment in total darkness, Dialogue in the Dark will activate the senses, challenge thinking, uncover new perspectives, and generate new ways of approaching and doing business. It draws reference from the world of those visually impaired, explored through topics of communication and accessibility to create a more inclusive society.

Universal accessibility in the meetings and events industry means contribution to business growth, knowledge sharing, an improved delegate experience and a competitive advantage for the destination.

Both Dubai and Melbourne are members of the BestCities Global Alliance - an international network of convention bureaus, connecting meeting planners to 12 premier meeting destinations.

Late last year, the BestCities Global Alliance unveiled market-leading research into universal accessibility in our industry. MCB contributed to demonstrating how Melbourne is quickly developing an enviable reputation as a leading city in universal accessibility.

Through our partnership, we hope to raise awareness in the industry about the importance of creating welcoming and inclusive experiences for everyone in the business events community.
