The City of Melbourne (CoM), is leading the way with event sustainability, being the first organisation to be certified under the National Carbon Offset Standard by the Australian Government.

Sustainability is crucial and the certification ensures that the CoM is measuring emissions from their events, reducing emission-intensive activities and investing in activities to reduce emissions from the atmosphere. Carbon offsetting is important to support positive environmental and social outcomes in our community.

The two main contributors of event emissions are catering and patron transport. To reduce the impact, their actions include limiting the use of generators, reduce red meat catering and increase renewable energy use. To combat patron transport attendees are encouraged to ride, walk or take public transport.
