Melbourne to host the 151st International Air Transport Association (IATA) Slot Conference

Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) worked with local host Melbourne Airport, to deliver a successful bid to bring the 151st International Air Transport Association (IATA) Slot Conference to Melbourne this year.

The city will welcome more than 1,000 aviation delegates this November at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Across four days, 230 airlines from across the globe are anticipated to deliver an estimated $4.7 million boost to Melbourne and Victoria’s economy. 

The bi-annual conference will see airlines and airports negotiate global flight schedules and air traffic control management. 

Melbourne has a strong track record in hosting prestigious conferences, supported by ideal event infrastructure, quality accommodation, accessible public transport, and exciting city experiences.

Over the upcoming months, the city will be busily preparing to host a steady stream of busy business events. MCB figures show that for the balance of this year, 64 international and national meetings are scheduled, including the unparalleled healthcare event CODA 2022, the World Barista Championships and World Brewers Cup 2022 and Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry Conference.

Right now, Melbourne is expecting to host 114 business events until the end of 2023 which are projected to attract close to 71,000 delegates to business events over the year to come filling 160,000 room nights across the hotel and accommodation sector. These include Melbourne’s highest yielding conference in May 2023 for Rotary International for 17,000 delegates, as well as events on sociology (3,000 delegates), obesity (1,500 delegates) and entrepreneurship (2,500 delegates).
