MCB launches bid to host the world’s largest gender equality conference in 2022

Last Friday, the Victorian Minister of Women Gabrielle Williams, launched MCB’s bid to host the world’s largest gender equality conference in 2022.

Already shortlisted as one of three finalists, Melbourne rallied support to bring the Women Deliver conference to Victoria in front of influential gender equality advocates during a registered Women Deliver satellite event at Parliament House.

‘Women Deliver’ is a leading global advocate for gender equality and the health, rights and wellbeing of girls and women. Held every three years, the Women Deliver global conference could inject over $26 million into the state’s economy and attract upwards of 5000 delegates.

MCB’s bid with support from all levels of Australian government and key stakeholders across industry and organisations, aims to bring the event to Australia for the first time.

Hosting the four-day conference in Melbourne brings the chance to carry the momentum of Women Deliver to the arenas where changemakers are driving real progress on the path to a more gender equal world.

Importantly, it also provides a unique opportunity to also share our work locally and deliver impactful long-lasting legacies that go beyond the dollars with initiatives stretching well into the future benefitting women and communities globally.

It’s through events like this we can continue the global dialogue for gender equality and the health, rights, and wellbeing of girls and women from our part of the world. By pushing beyond boundaries, we can harvest a sustainable future for all genders.

The next step in the bid process, involves the New York based conference organisers visiting Melbourne to see firsthand Victorian’s commitment to women and girls’ health and rights. The host destination will be announced by Women Deliver in mid-2020.
