City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp confirmed that she will work with MCB and its partners to help attract more lucrative international conferences to Melbourne, during the Melbourne Edge lunch hosted by MCB at Showtime Event Group’s Cargo Hall on Friday 22 June 2018.

The event provided guests with a unique opportunity to meet the Lord Mayor and hear her bold vision for Melbourne as well as facilitating a rich discussion around opportunities and challenges around growing Melbourne’s visitor economy.

With previous roles all intersecting with the City of Melbourne including working as Victorian Agent-General in London, the Lord Mayor shared her inside out view of Melbourne from an international business perspective. She explained that education was the key to addressing the lack of understanding about Melbourne’s vast business investment opportunities, and Melbourne’s events calendar was a key strength to gaining international interest and demonstrating our depth and breadth of the economy.

As Melbourne is the fastest growing city in Australia, the Lord Mayor is committed to bringing stakeholders together to accelerate discussions around the Airport rail link to improve the visitor experience in our city. Improving Melbourne’s streets for people walking, cycling and taking public transport is also on the City of Melbourne’s agenda to ensure the city better accommodates the increased number of pedestrians and cyclists.

The Lord Mayor acknowledged the success of MCB in bringing business events to Melbourne and the City of Melbourne’s ongoing commitment to delivering ‘substance-based intellect and experiences’, to ensure Melbourne remains one of the world’s leading business events destinations.
