Local knowledge and Expertise – major contributor for Melbourne’s success in Business Events

Melbourne reinforces its position as a premium business events destination by securing the Fragility Fracture Network Global Congress 2021 (FFN 2021), which is coming to Melbourne for three days in 2021 and expected to attract 400 specialists in the field.

To be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), it is the first time that this Congress will be coming to the Southern Hemisphere with specific focus on he Asia-Pacific regions. The latest research reveals over 50% of the world’s hip fractures will occur in the Asia-Pacific region by 2040 unless critical research and development is undertaken.

The FFN is an international non-for-profit network association based in Switzerland, which focuses on ensuring people suffering from fragility fractures due to osteoporosis and bone disease, receive the appropriate management throughout the entire line of care, from surgery and treatment to follow-up and rehabilitation.

The successful bid was secured by the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders and Club Melbourne Ambassador (CMA) Professor Peter Ebeling AO, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.

Melbourne has been an international leader in metabolic bone research with investigators from the academic field playing major international roles. The local expertise in the field and the city acting as a gateway to the Asia-Pacific region combined with Melbourne’s success factors and MCB’s collaborative approach helped secure the congress for 2021.

Local conference host, CMA Professor Peter Ebeling AO, said, “The bid process was seamless with our bid being the most sophisticated and thorough ever received by FFN.”
