Leading Hepatitis B experts convene in Melbourne to accelerate a cure

The city has welcomed 600* scientists to converge at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) for the 2019 International HBV Meeting from 1 – 5 October, organised by the Hepatitis B Foundation.

The focus of the 2019 International meeting is to find ways to advance a cure as more than 250 million people worldwide are affected by this virus and in Australia alone over 240,000 people have the condition – one that has major impacts in people’s lives. Hep B experts believe a cure is possible.

The event was won back in 2017 due to Melbourne’s success factors, its collaborative approach and local expertise. Melbourne has recognised specialists in the Hepatitis B (HBV) field, including conference’s chair, Club Melbourne Ambassador, Professor Peter Revill, Royal Melbourne Hospital Senior Medical Scientist at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.

A free public forum and a symposium will also be part of the meeting’s program. All these components represent the single greatest group of meetings dedicated to Hep B cure ever held in Australia.
