Showcasing sustainability

Explore Zoos Victoria’s sustainability systems and gain insights into the application of specific environmental solutions. Gain a broad overview of sustainability systems as your team joins an expert for an onsite tour of the zoo’s key facilities. Deep dive into topics such as waste, water and energy to better understand how it all fits together.

Implementing an environmental management system

Discover the zoo’s Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation process and observe it in operation. During this workshop there is a show-and-tell of crucial risk measures and Zoos Victoria’s innovative control measures. Your colleagues will gain an understanding of why the implementation of plan–do–check–act (PDCA) is vital to improving organisational environmental performance and conducting a mock audit with personalised coaching and tips will help guide the steps to take to develop a risk register. Along with these great insights, at the end of the workshop your team can leave with a roadmap for your own organisation to implement. 

Becoming carbon neutral

Understand the steps to carbon neutrality and discover the best approach for your organisation to become certified with real-world examples and coaching. Discover the next steps towards certification during this workshop. An industry expert will help your team explore key certification options including teaching about key practices to work towards achieving the gold-standard of carbon neutrality, carbon offsetting standards and establishing a carbon inventory

Continuing to build on its climate change milestones, it was recently announced that Victoria’s iconic zoos are the first in mainland Australia to be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy thanks to funding from the Victorian Government. Healesville Sanctuary is powered by renewable energy produced by the Crowlands Wind Farm, near Ararat and Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo use 100 per cent GreenPower.  This builds on the 675 kilowatts of on-site solar already installed at the three zoos.
