  • Bushfire Statement

    January 09, 2020

On behalf of the team at the Melbourne Convention Bureau, I want to extend our thoughts to everyone affected by the bushfires in Victorian regional areas of East Gippsland, the High Country and Upper Murray.

I also want to express our gratitude and support to the outstanding emergency services teams that are working tirelessly to keep people safe and contain the fires.

Melbourne Convention Bureau will work closely with its upcoming business events to help them understand the situation in Melbourne and regional Victoria for any planned tours.

While some parts of the state are experiencing challenging conditions, Melbourne and many regional destinations have not been impacted and are welcoming visitors.  This includes the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, the Grampians, Daylesford, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula, the Murray region and West and South Gippsland, including Wilsons Promontory.

Visitors can seek the latest information on the conditions by visiting the VicEmergency website (emergency.vic.gov.au) which includes up-to-date alerts and warnings on active Victorian bushfires.

For any event organisers considering a conference in Melbourne in the future, we are very much open for business and can be contacted for deeper discussions about individual events. In Melbourne, we have a proven track record of collaborating to secure and host business events and this approach puts us in good stead to cope with challenging circumstances such as bushfires.
