If successful, it will be the third consecutive year Melbourne has been the recipient of the coveted title and the fourth year for MCEC.
Karen Bolinger, Chief Executive Officer of MCB, said Melbourne's success as a premier business events destination could be attributed to three key factors: city-wide collaboration, world-class infrastructure and knowledge capabilities in a variety of sectors.
"Every single bid we facilitate is a combined effort by the local and state governments, MCEC, industry partners and academics that each make their own valuable contribution, enabling us to mount a compelling case and secure business events for our city," Ms Bolinger said.
"Melbourne is also the World's Most Liveable City as named by the Economist Intelligence Unit for last four years, offering delegates a safe, multicultural and vibrant destination to explore during their down time."
Peter King, Chief Executive of MCEC said: "MCEC is a major player in the global business events industry and leads the way in our creative food offering, leading technology capabilities and excellent customer service.
"MCEC is proud of its collaborative ‘Team Melbourne' approach to delivering events for the city and to take out this award for the fourth consecutive year would further strengthen our position as Australia's number one for business events."
The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
