MCB and Your Privacy

MCB adheres to the principles, regulations and provisions of the National Privacy Act in all its operations and activities both in Australia and overseas. MCB has published this information to explain how we collect, protect and use the information we keep in our database.

Your contact information on our database

The contact information held by MCB may include your name, organisation, current home or business address, telephone/mobile phone number, and e-mail addresses. We may also hold details on your business event requirements and your web listing/s.

How do we collect information?

All marketers collect information, and it is done in a variety of ways, which we have listed below.

  • Directly from you when you provide information by phone, via our website or in documentation you may complete and forward to us
  • When you register for events, functions, promotions or membership
  • From third parties who conduct related activities such as our business and project partners, representative offices, affiliates and members. Eg Australian Tourist Commission, Tourism Victoria, City of Melbourne
  • From other relevant industry research data
  • From available public sources of information

How do we use your contact information?

Like many marketing organisations, we are only as good as the information we have. Using it well is how we are successful. We've listed below the ways we use information.

  • To keep you abreast of the services we provide to members and business associates
  • To provide our members with the services they are entitled to under the terms of their membership
  • To administer and manage those services
  • To conduct research and develop our services as we improve our understanding of your needs and requirements
  • To improve our understanding of the marketplace in which we operate
  • To create new services that may be of interest and value to members
  • To enable our compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including crime prevention.

Please note:

Information plays a vital role in the marketing work that MCB does. The depth and quality of the information we gather underpins our ability to deliver results to Melbourne and to members by helping us to be more competitive in the business events marketplace. Without this information, MCB may not be able to deliver some, or all, of its business events business objectives and may not be able to maximise membership value.

When do we disclose your contact information?

From time to time, and in the normal course of our marketing activities, we need to entrust our information to outsiders. For example :

  • Telemarketing, for the purpose of research or database integrity checks
  • Third party mailing systems. Eg: To allow other members or partner organisations to provide you with business event products and services information, for research purposes, or for other marketing or sales promotions form time to time
  • Printers and Publishing bureaux, designers etc.

As we are a non-profit organisation, MCB may charge a fee to third parties for the provision of this information.

The steps we take to protect you

We see it as an important principle of doing business that when disclosing your information to a third party (such as those kinds of suppliers listed above), we also give them as if they were currently subject to the Privacy Act. Accordingly, we make it a condition of doing business, both in Australia and overseas, that they also take the steps necessary to protect the information we give them as provided for under the National Privacy Principles Act.

If the current arrangements regarding information collection, retention and limited disclosure as outlined are satisfactory to me, do I need to do anything more?

No. You don't have to do anything. Your consent to current arrangements will taken as given, unless you notify us otherwise. If you wish to make changes to your information, or wish to alter the ways in which we use your information, then you should contact us immediately.

Accuracy of Information

MCB makes all reasonable efforts to ensure that the information we collect is accurate, complete and up-to-date at the time of collection. If your circumstances change, or you believe our records are not accurate, complete or up to-date, please contact us immediately and we will take all reasonable and necessary steps to amend the information.
