Convention, Exhibition and Special Event Venues

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre
Unique Venues

MCECWhether for a large scale convention of more than 5,000 delegates or a small meeting for 20, Melbourne has a venue to suit almost every meeting, convention, exhibition, expo or special event requirement.

From modern facilities with top of the line technology, to historic hotels with old world charm, Melbourne has it all. The city also boasts a dedicated convention precinct encompassing seven major convention hotels and Australia’s largest and most flexible convention and exhibition space, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

Melbourne’s Spectacular Convention Venues

For conferences, exhibitions, meetings, expos and events, the Melbourne Convention Centre is the jewel in the crown of the South Wharf precinct – a AUD$1.4 billion development which includes the Melbourne Hilton South Wharf Hotel, and a spectacular shopping and dining precinct on the picturesque Yarra River.

As well as being complemented by the Crown Entertainment Complex, which includes international designer shopping such as Versace, Louis Vuitton and Marcs, in addition to world-celebrated restaurants such as Nobu, Rockpool and Bistro Guillaume, South Wharf provides a convenient base from which to explore Melbourne.

Special Event Venues to Impress

Melbourne is also known for its unique venues – from setting sail on Port Phillip Bay on the stunning luxury yacht, Platinum, to holding your event on Level 89 of Eureka Tower, the Southern Hemisphere's highest event space, Melbourne has a venue with a difference to impress any guest or delegate.

MCB’s Venue Finding Service

The Melbourne Convention Bureau’s free venue finding service, MM+ES, can take the hassle out of finding the right venue for your group’s requirements.  MM+ES also provides advice and quotes for all other event needs, such as caterers and entertainment.

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre

Melbourne has Australia’s highest concentration of convention facilities located in a city centre.  For convention delegates, this means convenience, less time travelling between hotels and sessions, and more time for experiencing the city outside of the conference and meeting schedule.

In 2009, Melbourne became home to one of the world’s most versatile convention and exhibition districts following the opening of the new Melbourne Convention Centre.

An Environmentally-friendly Convention Centre

To achieve a ‘6 Star Green Star’ environmental rating, a building must represent world leadership in its innovative environmental design features and sustainability - the Melbourne Convention Centre has accomplished just that.

As the first Convention Centre in the world to be awarded a ‘6 Star Green Star’ environmental rating, the Centre is also raising the bar with its technology, exceptional culinary options, flexibility and service.

The Melbourne Convention Centre offers unlimited options in event planning, with 52 meeting rooms of various sizes, a grand banquet room, an entry level foyer for 8,400 guests, and a state-of-the-art 5,540+ seat plenary that can be divided into three self-contained, acoustically separate theatres.

Sitting right in the heart of Melbourne with a stunning 18-metre tall glass façade fronting the Yarra River, the centre is easily accessible from every direction by foot, car or public transport.

Stunning, State-of-the-art Conference Facilities

The newest and most sophisticated yet still simple to use audio-visual, communications and information technology available is in-built into every meeting room at the Melbourne Convention Centre, allowing event organisers and guest speakers unprecedented self-manageable capabilities. This also saves clients time and money.

Fully integrated with the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre is the most advanced exhibition and convention space in the Southern Hemisphere.

Unique Melbourne Venues

Melbourne’s natural assets such as gardens and waterways, combined with the city’s excellence in arts, culture, design and architecture, has created a breadth of unique venues - an Event Organiser’s dream.

Event Room with a View

Be impressed by the Melbourne skyline during your event, taking in the best views around – Eureka 89 is the highest event space in the Southern Hemisphere, offering 360 degree views across Melbourne.

On the Water

Dance and dine the night away over the water at Alumbra in Docklands; with a glass dance floor on Central Pier, the venue definitely provides a different perspective of the harbour. Alternatively, hold your event in a ‘Fish Bowl’ at the Melbourne Aquarium.

Events with Culture

Be inspired by the movie industry at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) with cinema, studio or gallery spaces available for functions. The excitement of show business continues at the Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne’s famous Regent Theatre, or The Forum with its intimate booth set-up in the main auditorium. For an atmosphere of history and culture, try the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum or the Immigration Museum. Scienceworks boasts an impressive indoor starry sky with its Planetarium.

Country Hospitality and Traditional Australia

Experience true Australian tastes, bush music and outback entertainment at Emu Bottom – Victoria’s oldest Homestead – 35 minutes from Melbourne. A little further out, Rochford is a versatile wine, food and entertainment destination in the heart of the Yarra Valley, catering for 20 to 5,000 guests, with its cellar door, winery, restaurant and café.

And so Much More!

Delegates can go wild at Melbourne Zoo, or a function at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) can make a sporting enthusiast’s dream come true.
