Acclaimed chef Andrew McConnell opened the highly anticipated Supernormal on Flinders Lane in May 2014. Supernormal is an all day pan Asian eating-house located within the exciting 171 Collins Street re-development. Supernormal is an inspired interpretation of Andrew’s favourite Asian experiences. Awarded ‘Best New Restaurant’ in it’s first year and one chef’s hat in 2015 and 2016 in The Age Good Food Guide Awards, Supernormal offers a broad range of Asian dishes and delicious wines with a story to tell. The menu is influenced by the cuisine and restaurants of Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong and celebrates the notion of shared feasts, featuring a selection of classic dishes revisited, as well as some new and inspired favourites. Designed by Projects of Imagination, Supernormal is housed in a clever and considered glass-fronted space with an open kitchen and full length zinc-topped bar. Simple katakana signage and neon cherries offer a bright welcome to the restaurant, whilst, Pocky vending machines and cube-shaped light boxes line the kitchen bar and booths. Past the open kitchen where the chef brigade work in full view of the restaurant, a spiral staircase leads to the intimate private dining room. Supernormal caters for private dining and events 7 days a week, for both lunch and dinner. The room can accommodate up to 40 guests for a seated event and up to 60 guests for a cocktail event. Plentiful banquet menus designed to share celebrate the essence of Supernormal’s offering. Signature dishes such as the ‘Prawn & chicken dumplings, chilli & vinegar sauce’, ‘New England lobster rolls’ and ‘Peanut butter parfait’ are often favourite highlights of the banquet. For those that enjoy a feast as well as a spectacle, a whole roast suckling pig served with pickled cabbage and Korean chilli dressing can be pre-arranged. For cocktail style events, a selection of hot and cold canapés rove the room, featuring the celebrated flavours of Supernormal’s menu. The private room features a large wall mounted LCD screen and Bose surround sound, making it perfect for engaging presentations. With a built in karaoke system that includes over 2,000 songs, the private room also lends itself well to more of a party style celebration. Local boutique florist, Flowers Vasette can further transform the space by adding a collection of arrangements or feature installations. The private room is a versatile space that can be adapted to any occasion such as corporate events, conferencing, product showcasing, wine events, hens and bucks parties and birthday celebrations. The dedicated events team will work with you every step of the way to ensure the event is an unforgettable one.
